Writing/Editing Update: October Edition

Late in October, around the time I would normally be putting this belated post together, my stepfather passed away suddenly after a fall. I don’t post a lot of such personal stuff, but this sad turn of events had a large impact on my professional life as well. There would be no way to write this update without acknowledging this family tragedy. It sent me to various editors and authors for whatever deadline extensions they could offer as I tried to balance helping my mother through a difficult time while also finishing all the manuscripts in my queue. I never would have gotten through it all without my wife, Sandra, who organized and officiated the memorial service and is still helping my mom negotiate all the paperwork. I’m only now feeling up to posting about it even as minimally as this. So, that said, here are the updates.

Steampunk Novel. The manuscript had already been stalled for a while when all this happened. I eventually typed a few paragraphs late one night at my mom’s house, so I am slowly getting back into it.

Shared-World Novella and The Satellite Dish. Nothing new to report.

Ko-Fi and Patreon. Didn’t get to these. Will endeavor to post something before the end of November.

Editing/Work for Hire. I turned in my copyedit of Una McCormack’s The Last Best Hope, the first tie-in for the new Star Trek: Picard series. I also wrapped up copyediting The Unsettling Stars by Alan Dean Foster, which is set in the Kelvin timeline of the J. J. Abrams Star Trek films. I continued editing material for an upcoming Star Trek Adventures supplement while also turning the sidebars I wrote for the same supplement.

Final Thoughts. I’ll try to get the November update up on time. It will include some projects that originally should have been in this post, but thankfully my patient and understanding editors and authors extended my deadlines, which was much appreciated.
