Steampunk Novel. I’ve cracked 30,000 words on the manuscript and I’m about a third of the way through my outline, so the first draft will likely weigh in at about 100,000 words. Although these first five or so chapters—I’m starting to think the chapter breaks won’t always match the outline, so neither will the final chapter count—are going slowly, I think once the kinks are ironed out of the first act my writing speed will pick up a bit. That’s the hope, anyway.
Shared-World Novella. No updates yet from the editor. My coconspirator and I are waiting to see what happens there before deciding what we’ll do next with the project.
The Satellite Dish. This lit-fic revision is with a beta reader; if that goes well, I’ll be ready to do my final red-pen edit and get this available for Kindle.
Editing/Work for Hire. I started work on a massive collection for Baen Books, The Best of Jerry Pournelle. According to Amazon, the trade paperback will run to 416 pages. The book collects more than a dozen stories by Pournelle, with new introductions by John F. Carr. Also included are essays on Pournelle’s fiction as well as remembrances of Pournelle by friends.
